I have begun earnestly looking for graduate schools to apply to this summer. Parts of that process might interest my readers. (Prudence dictates reticence about the rest.)
The first question is, Which schools should I seriously consider? The American Historical Association’s website lists 192 doctoral programs in history in the United States and Canada-far too many to investigate. Today Abby and I signed and mailed back the lease for an apartment. We will be living in Taylors, SC, about six miles from Bob Jones University. The apartment has a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom, and it will be more than adequate for our needs. The apartment will be available May 1. This Saturday, a contingent from BJU attended the annual meeting of the South Carolina Historical Association. In all, we had four faculty and five graduate students: Dr. Matzko, Dr. Hayner, Dr. Larson, Dr. Schoolfield, Kellen Funk, Julie Phillips, David Woodworth, Abby Garland, and me.
