Slightly over one week into our engagement and some eleven months before our wedding, Abby and I have already begun to grow old together. Or, at least, I have begun to grow old, according to Abby.
Yesterday, as we were taking a walk together during our break at the Press, Abby pointed out that I have a gray hair growing on the side of my head. She has made similar observations at other times, but this time she gleefully claimed responsibility for causing the gray. I wasn’t overly concerned, because some gray might do wonders for my credibility. Nevertheless, Abby sought to reassure me that I would look distinguished with gray hair. Her quick reassurances got me worrying about exactly how many gray hairs she intends to give me.
All the above is written in jest. The truth behind the joke is that we both very much hope that we are laying the foundations for a marriage that will last . . . well past the time that Abby turns gray too.
This blog is not often visited, save by a few faithful readers. But on May 13, the blog had its biggest spike in visitors to date. You can see the graph from Google Analytics of visitors per day by clicking on the thumbnail below.

Apparently the news of that day was well-received by my readers.
From my father

Today when I went to the library, I checked out several books for me about wedding planning and such, but I checked out a wedding book for Lincoln too. It’s called The Everything Groom Book, by Shelly Hagen. I got it partially for laughs, but partially because it actually looked helpful. I’m not expecting great profound insights from Lincoln about wedding decisions, but I’m sure I will be (and already have been) asking him questions. Maybe this book will help him know the right answer. :)
As you can see from the previous post and the slight redesign, Abby and I will now be collaborating on the blog. She is interested mostly in writing about wedding plans, but on occasion she may post about something else. We’ll probably post much more often now that Abby is a contributing author.
From now till the wedding, we’ll be putting information on a new page here on the blog, so that you, our gentle readers, may be informed of the goings-on in preparation. The page appears under the “Wedding” tab on the menu bar. We hope you enjoy!
Jenni Powell and Mary Beth Hawley are in Jerusalem for a few weeks this summer. You can read about it on The Upper Room.
Today Abby and I went back to Paris Mountain. This time, we got engaged.
Abby and I spent the afternoon helping at the wedding of Meg and Duncan Johnson. After the wedding was over, we drove to Paris Mountain. Thunderstorms threatened, so we stayed close to shelter, sitting on a rock next to a brook. I read to Abby from a children’s book, which she had given to me for Christmas. On the last page, she found a card for her to read. The card asked her to marry me, and she consented. I then gave her a ring. Because the weather had improved, we went hiking until it was nearly dark. Then we called my family, and went to Abby’s home to be with hers.
