Professional Activities This Semester
This semester, I will have a few opportunities to become more acquainted with the history profession.
First, this Friday and Saturday, I’ll be going to the spring meeting of the South Carolina Historical Association. Several friends are presenting papers on Billy Sunday that they wrote for Historical Research and Writing. David Mathues wrote on Sunday’s campaign in Charleston; Jonathan Newell wrote on his campaign in Columbia; and Paul Matzko wrote on his views on creationism. Dr. Matzko will also be presenting a paper on the move of BJU to Greenville.
Second, I am writing an article on Alexander Hamilton for The Encyclopedia of the Early Republic & Antebellum America. The article, which is due April 1, will be my first publication. Dr. Schoolfield encouraged me to apply to write for the encyclopedia.
Third, I have been accepted to present my senior paper on history in seventeenth-century New England sermons at a conference at Liberty University on April 20-21. The conference is titled “Christianity & American History.” Unfortunately, I’m still not quite sure how I’m going to get to Lynchburg . . .

Congratulations on your upcoming first publication for The Encylcopedia of the Early Republic & Antebellum America … There is a lot of good information out there on Hamilton — good luck

Brian Reid and I will be going to the conference together. Brian, like me, is an MA student in history at BJU.

I just sent in the article on Alexander Hamilton. (While I was at it, I asked the editor to consider me for some another article.) I sent the paper on Puritan sermons in a few weeks ago.
