Provocative.
It’s easy to take shots at polished mega-churches. Such shots are well deserved. But what about polished Vespers? Campuses were all the students have the “right” haircut and every wears professional-looking clothes? Churches where, while entire families attend rather than just 20-somethings, there is a set schedule of events, carefully planned promotions, or where more time is spent on how to separate from culture (as opposed to join culture) than the person of Jesus Christ. I’ve never been to a mega-church, but I have been to dozens of “fundemental” churches, and I have yet to attend one where the overwhelming majority of people were not of the same race and roughly the same social status as myself. Just how welcome are the strangers?
No one likes order more than me, so articles like the above are tought pills to swallow. But maybe the disease is bad enough to take the pill for myself rather than points to the sick people across the room.
