Reinstalled Operating System

Tonight my third attempt at installing an operating system was successful. I am two for three. I have successfully installed Windows XP twice now on my own computer. Once I convinced Moriah to let me try to “update” her computer and, taking advantage of her ignorance, attempted to install Linux. Unfortunately I failed, and Moriah was not amused. But I haven’t given up yet. The last time that I did this, I had Scott and Philip mocking me. Maybe if I heed Michael’s admonitions about not installing junk, I won’t need to do it again for a while.

Photos from Abby in Carriacou

Gallery of Abby's photos from CarriacouAbby’s one photo of a Kayak sunrise has been very popular and several including Abby and my mother have requested more photos. Therefore, Abby and I have collaborated to bring you an entire gallery of photos from Carriacou.

Abby took the photos and wrote the captions. In her words, “These are just a very small sampling of the over 2,000 photos Abby has taken in Carriacou.”

By the way, the island girl is returning home tomorrow.

Photos of Emi in Korea

My sister Emi is in Korea with BJU’s Korean Mission Team this summer. You can see some photos of her and the team in a gallery which Joshua Threllfal kindly mentioned earlier.

Sunrise in Carriacou

Carriacou SunriseAbby is in Carriacou and sometimes sends out photos of her journeys. I liked this photo of a Kayak sunrise in particular, and she thought that you, gentle reader, might like it too.

History of Tracts and the Teaching of History

The article Print and Evangelicalism” in Common-place: The Interactive Journal of Early American Life gives a brief history of religious tracts, particularly examining the influence of British tracts first on American tracts and later on Asian and African missions.

In the article “Doing History” in Common-place, a historian and teacher explains how she tries to communicate her subject matter to students.

A Midsummer’s Afternoon

BeeAfter lunch I started walking to the library. Since I had the afternoon free, I made an hour’s detour to take photos. I got a few photos of bees, though I didn’t make any friends by doing so. I also tried my hand at photographing flowers, buildings, and construction. It was a chance both to get photos and to practice taking photos. You can see the photos in the gallery.

While you’re looking at the photos from this afternoon, you can also look at the roses.

I checked out a few “teach yourself” books about digital photography. Hopefully they have improved these photos. If any more experienced photographers have any words of wisdom for me , I would be grateful for any help.

Urge to Tinker

The urge to tinker has seized me these last few days. After Michael Collins gave his blog a beautiful new design, I wanted to redesign this blog entirely. Only inability and a lack of ideas has held me back. Then the new gallery on this site provided some opportunity for tweaking; I’d still like to make the color scheme of the gallery match that of the blog. Wordpress has a new kind of sidebar called widgets, which offers the opportunity both to tinker to install it and to tinker continually with new widgets. To make matters worse, I’m also curious about Drupal, a content management system.

To satisfy this urge to tinker, what I really need is a new project to work on. Here is my offer. If anyone needs or wants a new website, let me know. I can offer moderate web skills and much less than moderate design skills. But I work for the pleasure of it, and you can’t beat that price.
